what does it feel like knowing you're headed to houston with this team? >> it's unbelievable, i love everything about this team and coach wright and the staff. they prepared us for this and we're not done yet. >> tracy: enjoy your day. let's talk to coach. you look at arch, a mini me of yourself, to see him, to see this team finally make it to the final four. what does it mean for you and for this program to get back there? >> coach: it's great for the program. we have a lot of great players, we whether or not two great players this year, we're thinking of their families. chris ford, a great one, recovering back home. and they all followed us, all of the players back from the '50s, '60s, they all come to everything. this is for them. and i saw ar off the foul line tearing up. i've never seen that, ever, of arch. big east championship, nothing, i saw him on the foul line at the end. that's how much it meant to him. >> tracy: what about the heart that they showed down the

greg gumbel in new york, clark, kenny and chuck. congratulations, you called it. >> i got lucky. this was a quick pick 'em game. i went with preference, style of play, things that i like to watch more than the others. >> ouiji board. [laughing] i said at the beginning of the telecast, this is all about preference and taste. i like watching these type of teams play, oklahoma and villanova. so i said, okay, i'll go with it oar in than that i thought it was evenly matched. >> i agree. i thought villanova had more big moments and the key moments and they were the aggressive team. thousand the they were the more aggressive team throughout the game. kansas made a valiant effort to take a five-point lead. took better care of the ball. and then villanova responded with a 10-0 run. they had two runs of 13-0 and 10-0. and then made free throws. they just played enough good baskeball at the right time. and were aggressive.

aggressiveness set the tone. they stayed with it. that's who they've been all season long. that's who they are, the villanova wildcats. >> villanova and jay wright, wonderful university, they played a good game today. kansas played a good game. jay wright made nice, subtle adjustments starting the game off in the half court, three-quarter trap, got the game at his pace. and i take my hat off, when they weathered that storm, they got down by five. kansas made a terrific run to get up by five. i thought villanova had a chance to work but they made all of the plays. if you look at the stats, everybody chipped in a little bit. there was nobody who played spectacular. but everybody chipped in. and like i said earlier, about the first game today, when buddy hield came out and played fabulous, my boy, mr. ellis, did not play well, only four points. your stars have to play well. that's why they call them stars. >> greg: villanova and oklahoma on their way to houston. we find out who the other schools are who are round out

it is devastating. it is usually something that doesn't have to happen to good people. >> right now, holiday heart break. tire mark, a trail of destruction and two people dead. a family tragedy leads to criminal charges. >> plus, more americans confirmed dead in belgium. the new arrests and why a solidarity march was canceled. >> and a shocking sight before takeoff. an american airlines pilot in handcuffs. accused of almost putting passengers in danger. good evening, i'm sind why i shoe. a deadly crash in north carolina is now being call -- in new jersey is now being called a crime. a family was leaving an easter egg hunt in readington yesterday when tragedy stuck. a driver under arrest, accused of killing two grandparents and injuring several of their loved ones. brian connybear has the information.

who lost her grand parents in this awful accident is recovering at the hospital tonight. her family simply shattered by ap alleged drunk driver on what was supposed to be a happy easter weekend outing. >> i just couldn't believe it, that two such good people, on good friday. >> reporter: friends stunned by what happened to frank and audrey corso on route 523 in readington township, new jersey. these photos show the devastating scene. firefighters practically running to help, after a deadly head-on crash. >> i saw the accident in front of the house. i knew it was pretty bad. i could tell by the white car. >> reporter: the corsos, both in their 70s, died instantly when their white toyota was hit by this black suv. investigators say they had just taken their son and two grandchildren to an easter egg hunt for that by, and were headed home. >> they were always so nice to everybody. i would see them out walking all the time, and you know, seeing their family over there. >> reporter: the hunterdon county prosecutor says 22-year- old frank cabezas of white

lost control. family's car. >> it is a tragedy for the entire community. >> reporter: 10-year-old marissa corso was flown to helicopter by robert wood johnson medical center in new leg. amazingly her dad and brother were not seriously hurt. holiday outing turning tragic is hard to fathom. >> i feel so sorry for those kids to welcome their grand parents killed in the car. >> cabezas was not injured but police sources say it was not the first time in trouble, he was allegedly busted for drinking drunk in his underwear in 2012 and then facing drug charges as well. he faces multiple charges, including dui, wreckless driving and death by auto. the victim's family plans a double funeral instead of an easter holiday celebration. reporting from new brunswick,

this just in to the cbs 2 newsroom, a deadly crash in the bronx, where a car slammed into a dry cleaner store. it happened around 9:30 on alerton avenue in the alerton section of the bronx. workers at a liquor store next door say they heard the loud crash. the driver was rushed to the hobbit where he was pronounced dead. no word what caused the driver to lose control. new developments in the belgium terror attacks. the man caught on camera with two suicide bombers has reportedly been arrested. we are also learning more about americans being killed in the tragedy. cbs 2 kenneth craig reports from brussels. >> reporter: belgian authorities have charged three men with terrorism offenses after a series of raids linked brussels. americans stephanie and justin killed. mormon missionary joseph empe's parents told cbs news, he suffered burns but will make a full recovery.

that my son was alive. >> reporter: prosecutors said a man only identified as faycal c was arrested thursday facing tractor-trailer and murder crimes. belgian media reported saying faycal in this youtube video is the mystery man in surveillance video with the two airport suicide bombers. >> there is a heavy law enforcement presence here at brussels airport, which has been closed since tuesday's bombings. authorities say they have finished investigating the crime scene inside and now engineers are looking at the damage. >> we also have to look at security measures, because security levels have rose in our country. >> reporter: a solidarity march scheduled for sunday has been postponed. following security concerns that the police department is stretched too thin. still, hundreds of people returned to the growing memorial saturday to share their grief and sadness. kenneth craig, cbs news, brussels, belgium. investigators say brussels

despite the attack and it is set to reopen on tuesday. a slashing in the city just days after police announced a new strategy to combat the tonight, investigators are searching for the suspects who attacked a teenager at a busy subway station. cbs 2 steve langford reports. >> reporter: midnight at 96th and broadway, where a 129-year- old man, wait -- 19-year-old man, waiting for a bus is confronted by four suspects who chase him to the pedestrian plaza at the subway station. the victim is slashed and robbed. police say the man was slashed, across his head, his hans and his back. he was rushed to saint luke's hospital. >> we need more protection in our community. did you hear me deblasio? >> reporter: snore slashing in a citywide spree that has some wondering if this is some kind of a coordinated crime wave. >> it is like people here, scaring everybody. i don't know what is happening. >> we will be responding

>> reporter: mayor deblasio this week declaring a new focus on the city's slashing spree as cbs 2 marcia kramer raised questions about the renewed emphasis. >> my question is, what made you change your mind? >> i believe the nypd was on the right track before, i believe they are on the right track now. >> i don't understand why people want to slash each other, you know. >> reporter: some in this busy upper west side neighborhood say where is the beefed up security? >> i thought there would be a larger police presence as we speak. i don't see any policemen. do you? research the upper west side, steve langford, cbs 2 news. new tonight, a community comes together to mourn and remember the victims of a deadly explosion in the east village. today marks one year since the devastating blast. cbs 2 dave carlin has more. >> reporter: one year after the explosion and this fire caught on cell phone video brought horror and death to second avenue in east village, this empty lot where three buildings

candlelight and prayer. fresh flowers added to the fence along with the photos of the two men who lost their lives. 27-year-old moises lieucon a restaurant worker and 23-year- old nicholas figaroa, a restaurant patron on a date. here is figaro ra's mother hannah. >> sometimes things get easier with time. nothing can be further from the truth. >> reporter: 22 people were hurt. mildred guy was on the fifth floor of the building. she lost her home of 44 years. >> horrible. horrible. an incident that shouldn't have happened. >> reporter: four people were indicted last month on manslaughter and other criminal charges. the building's owner, maria hernanko her son, and a contractor and a plumber allegedly tampered with the building's gas line and failed to warn residents. the disaster that resulted is leading to new laws, including legislation to mandate more inspections of gas lines. >> these laws are in honor of nicholas, and moises and the

>> reporter: even a portion of this blast site could fetch $10 million if sold to developers. politicians say they want to make sure that the owners who are allegedly negligent do not benefit. >> because of his death and moises death can change this, and make a difference, yes, nicholas would have been proud. >> reporter: families here were promised the city will crack down on landlords who, perhaps motivated by greed, schemed to take deadly shortcuts. in the east village, dave carlin, cbs 2 news. in campaign 2016, news tonight, senator bernie sanders is riding a new wave of momentum after huge victories over hillary clinton. today, democrats held caucuses in three states. the biggest prize was washington state. with 101 delegates at stake. and sanders defeated clinton, 72-28. the margin of victory was even bigger in alaska. the vermont senator took 1% of the vote. -- 81% of the vote. tonight we are waiting on results from hawaii where the caucus is still under way.

new tonight, an american airlines co-pilot was detained at a michigan airport today. suspected of being drunk. investigators say he was just minutes from getting behind the controls of a plane with dozens of passengers on board. >> this image snapped by jamie blaine shows exactly what passengers witnessed this morning at detroit metro airport. >> they had him handcuffed and they were putting him into the vehicle. >> blaine and her son mitch were headed to a spring break truck. at first, the flight had only been delayed by 20 minutes, with airport officials saying it was a problem with seating.

they were stunned when they finally figured out what it was. >> by the time airport police arrived jamie laughed at first. >> there is the police car. you know, they are going to come get somebody. and then i looked out and saw him walking and oh, they really are. >> it turns out tsa reported the american airlines co-pilot was acting strangely as if he had been drinking and police gave him a breathalyzer test which he failed. the flight was then canceled, leaving passengers scrambling. >> when we first got off the plane, it seemed to be a lot of chaos, and people trying to get answers. and trying to change flights. we knew we were going to miss our connecting flight. >> american airlines tells us this is a serious matter and we are assisting local law enforcement and the federal aviation administration with the investigation. we will handle this matter appropriately, with the safety and care of our customers and employees is our highest priority. some passengers say the thought

plane while drunk is dare fyking. >> drunk drivers may take -- terrifying. >> drunk drivers may take the lives of a couple of people and this is a drunk pilot who could have taken the lives of hundreds of people. >> the pilot from philadelphia failed a second test at the police department. he has been released as authorities decide whether charges will be filed. two sheriff's deputies are being called heroes tonight, risking it all, by rushing into a burning car, and saving a woman's life in southern florida. their act of bravery is on video for the world to see. you can see the deputies braving the flames and pulling the woman from her car as fire takes over the vehicle. the woman was trapped between her steering wheel, air bag and seatbelt. >> there was no other choice. we had to go back. there was no other choice. when the fire extinguisher ran out, the only way to continue, we had to go back in the car. >> and the female deputy has second-degree burns on her hand and forearm. the 58-year-old victim is in intensive care and is expected

one easter egg hunt in connecticut ended with parents scrambling to save their kid, the pandemonium at the pez visitor center and a crowd of thousands began storming the field before the event started and witnesses say some parents started knocking over little kid, with the excitement so much. and some steeling eggs out of people's baskets. >> when my son left, he had a broken basket and hysterically crying. >> locusts. everybody descended and left. >> organizers say they tried to inform parents there was extra candy on hand for kids who didn't get any. luckily, no one was hurt. two nypd officers went above and beyond the call of duty to help an elderly woman in staten island. and officers demarco and gormley took her grocery shopping after performing a wellness check on her. they noticed she did not have enough food in her home so the officers spent their own money. about $40. at a nearby shop right.

your easter forecast. it looks pretty good. >> it does look good. it is not exactly the beautiful warm day, because we have had a few of those and i know some people were definitely hoping for this holiday weekend that we would get certainly another warm and supe day. it is going to -- sunny day. it is going to be cool and breezy and also cloudy. dry. good news. and weather watchers, what kind of numbers we are seeing out there tonight, one of the warmest readings we are getting from beverly in brooklyn, 45 degrees where she is. and one degree cooler as we head into connecticut, this is from sam in greenwich. and says 44 there. nice day but a bit breezy, and temperatures where we should be if not warmer but again, we definitely are getting that with the breeze, and mark and janine in pleasant valley, 39 degrees. a live look outside, see what is going on, from the camera high atop the empire state building. partly clear, and 43 degrees. the winds out of the hour.
